The only thing that could make me second guess a R9 290 purchase is if a 1920 CUDA GK110 GTX 770 Ti (with GPUDirect, Hyper-Q, and Dynamic Parallelism intact , all not on GK104) came out for $350 and under 200W TDP and > 22Gflop/W (R9 290X ~18GFlop/W , R9 290 ~19.6GFlop/W).
