Thanks for all the help guys, for some reason I never inspected the packaging closely before but after a quick look today there where many spelling mistakes now there is no doubt in my mind that I have a fake version, bummer

Did you have a Microsoft tech check your key on their database? If you did, did they say if it was an MSDN key or maybe a volume license key?

If you can, get one of their Answer Desk Technicians through this link and have them validate your product key. Specifically have them check if it is blocked for activation or validation:

They usually blacklist specific product keys that are sold illegally. Case in point: Windows 7 product keys sold in ebay back in 2009. As it turned out most of the sold keys were MSDN product keys. redface.gif

So there could be hope for this particular key ? No i could never get that far with the teach department before being hung up on, I guess they are swamped with people in the same boat as me begging for a solution.

The link I gave is not for phone support. It's their chat support link. They'll need a phone number just in case you get disconnected while chatting with those guys.
