Help with a weird GPU problem

So I have a GTX 480 that I got back from RMA and it didn't work (this happened about a year and a half ago). Last night I fired my working GTX 480, so I thought I would try this card again just for the heck of it. When I turned the computer on I was surprised to see that it actually worked! Windows was in the really low res state though, so I re installed drivers, restarted, and it looked like it was in normal working condition. I then restarted and booted back into Windows. After about 20 seconds the screen instantly got this weird discoloration with pinks and purples (not artifacts, just weird discolorations of the screen). I could move the mouse, but not interact with anything. It then freezes and crashes and restarts.

This is where I am stuck right now. The weird thing is, if I immediately run a GPU stress test like Furmark before it discolors, it won't crash or discolor. When I turn it off however, it will discolor and crash. It is very weird.

What do you guys think I should do? The only way for me to be able to run my computer is when I run a GPU stress test!

Reflash the bios of the card, could be corrupt.

Can't really think of any thing else of why it works under stress, but not idle.

Okay so I am assuming that the problem is lack of stability at a lower voltage (hence when it crashes at idle). I don't really want to flash my card, since I can RMA it, so is there a way to keep the voltage from changing depending on the load?
