Pondering the idea of using my HDTV as my primary monitor. Thinking of getting a new HDTV and thinking I have been wanting a 120hz monitor anyways. biggrin.gif

Here is my HDTV

http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/LN40C630K1FXZA

Is it really 120hz?

Is using a HDTV a good idea as a monitor?

I'm using a old Polaroid 1080P as a monitor. It works fine. I even play League of Legends from my couch, would like a better surface for control but works fine.

With Steam and a 360 controller I have a great pc/gaming/htpc setup

do it, im using a 40 as my main screen

The problem with most TV is find is they dont work correctly with PC if you connect via HDMI. Via VGA they work fine. Another problem is most TVs have huge input lag because really they are not made for gaming in mind. If you are looking for TV i would get the http://www.seiki.com/.

Its 4K @ 30Hz and 1080p @ 120Hz.

Ive tried using my 50" Panasonic many times as a monitor and every time i decide it looks like garbage as a monitor. Looks great as a TV, but when your used to a normal 1080p 22-25" monitor the pixel density of a 40-50 inch screen is just terrible. It might be ok if you sit like 10-15ft away, but sitting 5-8ft away you still see every single pixel

It depends on how close you will be viewing it. If you're at normal viewing distance it generally looks pretty bad for a TV that size and at 1080p.

You just have to turn off sharpening, dynamic contrast and other such things like that.

My monitor is technically a TV, but it has more options for the picture than any monitor I've ever owned. Being that it's IPS it looks great too.
