that may be what the problem could be.

with a 5870 idling:

338 watts full load subtract ~38 watts for the idling 5870 for 300 watts
a 7950 will use 180 watts full load 480 watts
a 560SE can use an additional 140 watts full load for 620 watts.

PSUs can put out their rated wattage. but possibly even just the slightest voltage drop caused by the adapter (and i do mean slight) might be enough to cause it to shut down. if you were gaming then i wouldn't be concerned with the high load without looking at idle so it stays within a good efficiency at all times.

but since it is 100% load then even for 80% load on the PSU (620/.8) 775 watts as the minimum. this would be one of the very very few times i would ever recommend that overkill is good.

sure, you can get a 650 with enough 12 volt amps but look at an 850 watt ( for 73% load) and be done with it.

thats my 2cents.gif

Well my luck sucks. Got home from work to discover that my main monitor was not working. I turned it off, unplugged it, checked all the connections, plugged it back in and turned it on. I could hear something like sparking going on inside, the screen was kinda dim and jittery and then smoke was coming from the venting in the top..... Yep. Need a new monitor.

Guess I solved my wattage issue for now huh? Took the GTX560SE out of the rig for now. Dunno. Maybe I will sell or trade it for a monitor....
