Indeed. I think that's one reason why the original Kaveri was canned in favor of the one we have (or will have) now. At the time, AMD probably thought GDDR5 would be plausible around this time, but things didn't pan out and they decided to just wait on DDR4 for Carrizo instead.

If the memory controller does support GDDR5 (GDDR5 isn't too different from DDR3, so it is possible), we would most likely only see it implemented in embedded solutions (like laptops and tablets).

Huh, I might actually build an HTPC again. Last one I had was an e5300 and a 5770 I belive....
