hey guys i used to overclock my i7 2600k by hand but it would always bsod after a week or so then i tried the performance setting in the bios that overclocks it by it self to 4.5 ghz now my temp idle is around 28 and 48 when playing lol maxed not sure if thats good but my question is, is it good to use this performance setting or will it hurt the cpu im using a p8p67 deluxe

Manually configuring the CPU in the BIOS is the best option. The "performance setting" sounds like an automatic overclocking function. You may be able to get it stable on less voltage with a manual config.

48C won't hurt it, but the voltage could if its excessive.

It's all about voltages, especially the vcore.

You could be BSODing for many reasons on manual. Most likely, the auto OC function is supplying more voltage than your manual config.

The most common BSODs when overclocking seem to be X101 (fix with +vcore) and X124 (fix with +/- pll voltage)

Intel states PLL max is 1.89. No official recommended max for vcore. Consensus seems to be ~1.35v for no notable impact on longevity to ~1.4v+ for minimal impact.
