Hi all I have a Sandy bridge HM76 panther point with a pentium b970 could i replace it with i7 840QM and work with it ?

You wouldn't be able to use a 840QM because it is from a generation behind. You have to find out what that specific board will do because I have an HM76 board in my N5110. I have to change boards before I can upgrade to an i7 2xxx. I currently have a 2410m which is pretty crappy. It does what it needs to though.

Apperently in the HM76 chipset there are 3 different types of Sockets

Look up your motherboard's serial number and find out.

The HM76 chipset supports the following processors: http://ark.intel.com/products/64345/Intel-BD82HM76-PCH
wink.gif I would of listed them but the list is way too long. Any one of those processors should work as long as your BIOS allows. I'd suggest reading the manual and checking to see if it is compatible.

Thing is the HM76 chipsets comes with 3 different types of CPU Sockets,

BGA1023, GA1224 and Socket G2 So i think those induvidual sockets each have a list of compatible processors.

But so far on the internet you can only find What type of CPUs the HM76 chipsets supports in total.

i think you need to find out what socket type your motherboard has, and what socket type to CPU has you want to try out.
