Honestly I've no idea what got my itch going, I didn't really care about H-E since I didn't like what I saw about the previous and for the fact its still limited in PCI-E lanes. I'm honestly waiting for Skylake, by that time timings, speed and everything should have long been overhauled and we'll either 1) be starting in the 4.5 range or 2 roll back to the high 2-3ghz range on a brand new line of further optimization. That and PCI-E 3.0 will be used to the fullest, that way some games don't dive in FPS when rotating the camera view and reshoot back to 100+ fps the minute you're going one direction when running 1440p surround. 1080p it's no issue.

Speaking of which don't you run surround in 1600p? If so do you ever have such issues? Curious on that, I know popping up the clock/mem speeds really bumps up my fps by 22+ at times but other than that its definitely not the CPU causing drops from what I'm monitoring.

If you can hold off then yeah you can wait(probably not lol), if not its a decent upgrade, and power saving too. Dual channel / quad channel > Tri Channel biggrin.gif

Don't get me wrong I miss my 980x only because it still sits next to me. Debating if its even sellable at this point. Part of my reason for upgrading was that even though my Gigabyte board supported 3x GPU's I couldn't get the 3rd to fit oddly due to the connectors in the board, probably a flaw on their part.

3 Titans is defintely a good way to go though, minimizes tearing and stuttering if any w/ the 3rd and best performance ratio it seems. 4 doesn't really boost much cept for benchmarks from what I've been told/seen. 3 seems to be the sweet spot.

Not for nothing Luna, I am contemplating testing a 980 in my system to give me more juice. But the prices are all over the map this time last year in May Frys was selling the 990x for $450 (or was it $475 to lazy to google it) and I felt that was too high.

Its an interesting road, since the x58 platform is going on 4 years now and it still is STRONG. Kind of scary when you consider that when overclocked it can keep a bit of pace with the 3930k when I benched it with my titans. Granted it's not perfect, but for the price and it's limitations...

What did your 980 hit?

lol edited my post a few times,

but was asking if you ever throttled alot when in 1600p surround or if you figured it was something else besides CPU?

I never had my 980 on WC the highest I attempted was 4.8 using a closed loop. Was pretty hot though. So I went back down to 4.2, honestly at the time I wasn't playing anything crazy and MMO's ran perfectly fine.

on my 4960x though I'm on 4.5 24/7 but watercooled.

I am pretty sure that it does not, since I thought I had disabled it in the bios. I could be wrong, one of the issues in BF4 is that occasionally I will a big spike. I have debated if A. I need more ram ( I am running 3 x 2GB) B. more speed/cores.

Ah WC.... Sadly / happy for me I still have had no need to for a WC setup. As much as everyone here and there preaches WC, I really do not want to be bothered with the hassle, and time setting it all up. My system with 10+ fans seems to be doing the job REALLY well.

I would think you could have gotten a higher O/C. What Mobo did you use for your 980? I am almost temped to ask you to let me test your 980 to see what juice I could get out of it. I would have expected you could have hit 4.7 on Air with it.

Edit: Ahhh saw you wrote 980 I think the 980X can do more.

disabled what now? something for throttling ????

Mine would just be in mmo's or some games I'd be running 100+ fps but soon as I move teh camera angle I watch fraps fps go straight down to 30-40 then zoom back to 100+ when I stop it and just go 1 direction. No idea wth is going on w/ it.

980 on air @ higher than 4.5? I'd be to scared to, though I did at one point on my V6(or was it v8) cpu fan to see, and I think I had an OC fail and it reset me back to bios due to heat or something. I had the X58-UD3R board I believe from Gigabyte. I mostly ran @ stock in the beginning, then a couple years later upgraded to a closed loop only because the heatsync slighly bent during shipping ( didn't think it was heavy enough to move around ) but didn't dmg anything else. So I swapped it out.

As for WC yeah its a pain(but fun) to set up , but once you have it going its set and forget for at lest 9-12 months then 45 minutes of cleaning at most I guess. My only real motivation to go to WC was silence and less heat in my room, especially being in AZ heh, summers are killer ESPECIALLY for games that make your cards throttle to 100% CPU fan and still stay @ 80C ( poorly coded games or sli failures) which is killer on ambient LOL.

I'm not much of a bencher, just more for performance and stability, if I can get a game I love to run smoothly then I'm all for it, that's about it.

Ah I am wrong:
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)....................:DISABLED just while your benching for a stable over clock, when stable this can be Enabled
C3/C6/C7 State Support.....................:Disabled this always stays disabled, even after a stable o/c or even if your running stock
CPU Thermal Monitor........................:Auto <<<<change to Enabled
CPU EIST Function..........................:DISABLED just while your benching for a stable over clock, when stable this can be Enabled

I have not really notice a difference in games to be honest.

Yeah I am using the X58A-ud5 rev 2 gigabyte board, cooling wise I have had my fans running 24x7 for the last many years... Still going strong (check case photos) and I don't really mind the sound. The sound, thats loud though are the Titans... would be nice if they were lower but sae la vie. I think I will keep an eye out for the 980/990 chips.

What do you guys use all that power for? I'm running a single GTX 670, and for games that don't support more than 60hz, I'll always cap it and usually have a bit of power left to spare (granted, not at max AA). I am however, impatiently waiting for the next GTX series (8xx?); at which point I'm finally going to get the x80 version, instead of the x70 like I have for the past 10 years (as in, never gotten the most powerful version before).

I can see one Titan, but three? Seems like a waste of money, unless you're able to max out the cards. Does running surround / 4k res demand that much?
Yeah the Titan SLI makes a world of a difference in games. DO I utilize all 6GB NO, however I have used over 3GB before in some games.

If your not doing 1600p / 4k surround I do not feel you need a TITAN. It does help though for what I am doing. Going to 3 Titans.... Look at my benches in my Sig you can tell for yourself.

Surround 7680x1440 @ 120hz + 1 additional display , debating if I"m gonna go w/ my 55" TV and mount it on the wall or just mount a 1440p in the center.....hmmmmmmmmmmm HMMMMMMM

God damn breathtaking if you ask me in most games thumb.gif

I don't think x80 or x70's would be able to maximize on that one. If it was 1080p I'm sure they would but boy does the b/w spike up as well as amount of processing when u jump up into the 1440/1600 range biggrin.gif that's where these giants really flex their muscle.

yeah I have 4 30" I am debating if I should mount the 4th as an accessory display above my center monitor or if I should just sell it I was planning to go 5 and put them in portrait then realized I cant do that with NVIDIA
