I can't believe no one mentioned this, but sponges eventually break up. The one that comes with my mcp35x reservoir is used only for making bleeding faster. Leaving it in will eventually decompose it and it will end up spread throughout your loop. Not good.

hmm i guess it depends what liquid you use , but with water it should be fine. it s must be pretty bad quality then because i have some kind of sponge in my pond filter since 10 years , they are squized hard every 2 days and often wash without care , they freeze in winter and get covered in algue the rest of the years and they are in pretty good shape.

hmm, bitspower mini tank z res won't work well without the supplied sponge. the ddc even undervolted will cause a vortex which sucks in air. i ended up finding the original sponge in the garbage pile when i was building the loop and boiled it in a pot for about 15 minutes and resused it. seems to be working fine now.
