i7 4930k + H80i temps

Thread Starter
I'm not sure if my H80i is performing normally. Need your feedback.

My 4930k is overclocked to 4.4Ghz with 1.36V (CPU-Z). After a few hours of Prime95 blend test, a couple of cores reach 79-80c. Is that normal for this cooler ?

-Room temp is about 22c.
-I used the stock paste that came pre applied on the H80i (i have some MX-2 paste, maybe i should try that ?)
-I set the fan of the H80i as an exhaust fan, would it be better to set it as an intake fan ?
-my case is an antec 900, top fan is exhaust, front fans are intake.

Well I don't own an Intel but my Phenom II x6 overclocked to 3.8Ghz at 1.48V only ever sees 45-50C. Not sure if that helps or hinders what you are looking for, but to me the cooler is a very good cooler so 79-80C seems rather high.

Also I am running 2 fans on my unit, push/pull config so that may help also? Again it is a different CPU so this post may be invalid to you. redface.gif

4930k's run hot, so I'm not surprised by those temps. Though of course I have little experience with 2011...

I have te i7 4930k and the h110i and I see temps around 60-68c on full load. So the temps aren't too far off base. Maybe a tad on the high side. Are you using the stock thermal grease? Or did you apply aftermarket stuff? That might affect it.

Glenn.

Edit: Just saw that you mentioned using stock. I would clean it off and try the mx-2 and see if that helps.

Sorry to intrude, but is your 4930K stock or overclocked? Secondly, are those load temps during gaming or stress testing (i.e. IntelBurnTest or Prime95)?

Firstly that Vcore is waaaay too high. I am at 4.6 with 1.325. I know each chip is different but I think you can try to lower your Vcore.

Those temps are OK. The H80 is only a single rad so expect a bit more than I get with my 240pushpull. Lower the Vcore and you may get a lower temp

Good luck

Those temps don't look to bad actually

You hear a lot about how cool Ivy Bridge-e chips run, but what people often fail to mention is that while they do run remarkably cool (and at low voltage) at stock, they get exponentially warmer when you add more voltage for overclocking. Keep in mind you're rocking 6 cores, that's 2 more than any other i7 out there. It makes sense that it runs hotter.

That said, my 4930K @4.6ghz + H80i would easily hit 80c after 20 minutes of Prime95, and often topped out in the 70's during regular gaming. So I upgraded to custom watercooling.

So, yeah, I'd say OP's temps are what should be expected.

80c is no big deal, you just don't want to get any hotter than that. If it becomes a problem, you may need to either back down your oc or upgrade cooling.
