So, i bought a Asus z87 Rampage VI Formula but after some thought about the crazy temps on the 4770k i decided to order a Rampage IV Formula X79 and i'm going to the shop tomorrow to get the new mobo and a CPU .

So, here's the thing now ... get the 4820k or go deeper in my poor man's pockets ( yeah, this will have to last 3 years tongue.gif ) and get a 4930k.

Basic usage:

- Gaming
- Work: front-end dev, photoshop / illustrator / lightroom, various browsers instances open, various IDE's open, local server,

The thing is, if i get the 4820k i can get a better gpu ( or 2 gpu's ) ... if i get the 4930k i can only get 1 gpu smile.gif
Or just forget about the temperature issue of the 4770k and buy the damn thing, hot or not.

( Btw, cpu will be cooled by the swiftech h320 and i play at 2560x1600 ).

Tell me your opinions, since i've been out of scene for some time now.

( I really wanted to go with the 4770k to be honest, but the crazy temperatures i see people getting just get on my way to make the buy ... )

I'd say the 4930k since you will actually be using it for work. It should last you a long time as well. You can always upgrade/sli/crossfire your gpu(s) later down the road if you feel like you need more gpu power. But basically, spend your money so that it can earn you more money. biggrin.gif

4390K and don't look back.

I recently picked up an i7 970 for my X58 system. I'll probably hang on to this system for another 4 - 5 yrs.

4820K will likely clock higher, but you're limited to 4 cores. On the flip side, almost nothing is coded to make use of 6 cores, so unless you do a lot of video rendering/encoding or benchmarking, there's very few applications (and ZERO games) that benefit from the additional cores on a 4930K. I think Photoshop does actually make use of the additional cores, but I wouldn't swear to it as I don't use it a lot.

Although for sheer l33tness, nothing beats a 6-core cpu. wink.gif
