Asus P8Z6V-Pro Ram question

Thread Starter
So I just picked up this set here cause I had some store credit and a crazy good ccoupon code.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231615

I currently use this set here

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455

I initially planned on just using the 16gb kit but then I realized they were both the same XMP settings im rather sure. My question is will I be able to just drop these into my other two dimms and call it a day? Or will i run into any issues of populating all 4 dimms or stressing my IMC with my overclock and 24gb of ram? I know back in the day motherboards had recommended dimm slots didnt know if that was a factor anymore either. Thank in advance for any help.thumb.gif

The best advice I could say is that you should try it out, if you notice anything funny, then somethings wrong.

But I always went by that if they were the same specs and frequencies, they will work fine together.

Good luck

I hate to bump my own thread for such a question but I found this in my MB online manual. Is this going to kill my rams speed if I try both kits together.?

"You may install varying memory sizes in Channel A and Channel B. The System maps the total size of the lower-sized channel for the dual-channel configuration. Any excess memory from the higher-sized channel is the mapped for single-channel operation."

Thanks anyone who has an answer in advance biggrin.gif. Never used more than two dimms and new to the 4 dimm setup (well since pentium 100mhz days lol).

*edit* Or may I be able to mix the two kits so both channels are the same size? I have no idea. I need someone with more memory knowledge to inform me!

Install the larger capacity kit in the initial slots, then install the smaller capacity kit in the secondary slots.

Manually input basic DRAM settings in BIOS/EFI

test to see if the system is stable. if not, you may need to downclock to DDR3-1600 to see how that works.

Cheers
