Which relay switch to get? How to wire it up?

Thread Starter
OK after trying to google up what I need to do what I want to do, I realize I don't know enough to pull it off without some advice/help.

What I want to do:
Control some cold cathode case lighting with the case's LED on/off switch so that it turns on/off along with the LED lighting my build has.

Problem:
The amperage of the cold cathode lighting easily exceeds the max allowed to be connected to the LED switch, especially with all the LEDs already connected to it.

Solution?
Wire a relay switch to the LED switch that only uses the LED feed to switch on/off a 12v feed from my PSU to the cold cathode(s). As far as I (mis)understand it, after looking up the specs on the LEDs already hooked up to it, there looks to be about 0.4A overhead left on the 12v 1A max the case manufacturer recommends having hooked up to the LED switch.

Assuming what I want to do is possible (hopefully someone here can say whether it is or isn't), what type of relay switch would I need? Where to get it? How would it need to be wired up?

Simply googling '12v relay switch' and trying to sort through the results did my head in. confusedsmiley.png

You can get solid state relays that will actuate with a few miliamps of current on the primary. They can be had with pretty much any reasonable 12v amperage in the secondarys.

Radio shack would be a good place to look.

Just enter "12v relay" on their search page.
