Athlon 3.0 FM1 -seeking help

Thread Starter
Hello.
I just ordered a Corsair H55 Hydro to replace my ****ty AMD stockfan, along with a Corsair silent pro 120 to replace the Hydro fan.
I am new to overclocking cpu's. I am very ignorant on this matter, but have no problem following guides.
If anyone have any experience with the same speccs I have or can link me a guide it would be much appreciated!

Specs PC
  • AMD Athlon II X4 651 3.0GHZ 4MB socket FM1
  • Asus F1A55-M XMS3
  • Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600mhz

Specs Corsair SP120
  • 2350 RPM, 62.74 CFM, 35 dBA

What do you think I can get my Cpu up to in a safe manner with this new cooler?

Is that the Athlon II x4 651, or the 651k?

Its the 651.

What you guys think? I can clock it to like 3.5GHZ or something around that?

Is am I getting this right, I just clock from BIOS? And do it 0.1-0.2GHZ at the time?

Yeah, if it's just the non-K 651, you'll have to overclock via the FSB/reference clock. It should be pretty easy to reach 3.5 or 3.6 ghz. Llano (I know from experience) typically tops out around the 3.5/3.6 ghz range.

You can take the FSB up to 133 and drop the multiplier from there (since it's multiplier-locked, the multipliers can only be lowered). 133 * 30 = 3990 or close to 4Ghz, this definitely wouldn't be stable, so do 133*26.5 and get 3.5 ghz. Of course you'd have to watch the other multipliers as well, such as NB (northbridge) and RAM multis and such.
