Is 2 way CrossfireX enough for capturing gameplay?

Thread Starter
I almost bought an Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition in order to capture my PC gameplay, but then I realized it was just stupid.

First, I cannot capture WQHD with any of those devices (Hauppauge, Elgato, Avermedia, etc), as they are limited to HD resolutions.
Second, would not be able to record sound, as I use the 7.1 analog outputs from my sound card and they only support 2.0 sound over digital (HDMI).

Since I want to be able to experience my games with quality, this is unacceptable. And I'll probably use Dxtory to do it. So I have some questions about it:

1- Will my system (as it is) be able to handle all games at more than 60fps while recording?

2- Is the performance impact too much noticeable with Dxtory?

3- Can Dxtory downscale the video to HD?

4- If I add another monitor, do I have the option to record from one of them only?

Thanks

If you want to use software for recording, you'll need a beefy cpu. That said, Dxtory is very efficient, and you will be more than fine on your 3570k (I don't think you'll be able to record WQHD@60fps, but 30 should be doable). And, it doesen't bring the entire system to a halt like Fraps do biggrin.gif You can downscale with dxtory, either by percentages or by resolution.
If you have the ability, you should put two HDD's in raid 0 and use that for recording. That should give you some nice overhead.
AFAIK, dxtory reads from the gpu's framebuffer directly, and saves that to the drives. That means that you'll record from programs, not the monitors. If you fire up a game on one, you won't be able to record from the other at the same time. Atleast, that's my understanding of it. Dxtory has some extensive settings you can play with, so maybe it's possible.

Nice, Dxtory seems to be really impressive.

All my disks on this system are in FlexRAID and that's why I was planning to encode with H.264 on Dxtory. That is why I'm afraid that performance will be badly hit with Encoding + Scaling + Recording.

EDIT: Oops, forgot to add my SSD to the signature. When I said my disks were in FlexRAID, I was talking about the WD Red's. The OS is on the SSD.
