$100-$200 BF4 GPU

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I used to frequent this place all the time but the obligations of life have limited my time nowadays. Therefore I am not sure what my best option is to replace my GPU.

Right now I have a 460SE who has been loyal but his age is showing now more than ever. I am looking to play a solid 60fps on BF4, on low-med settings. Right now I do not get that, even with my 860 @ 4.0Ghz, and my 460 quite heavily overclocked.

I did a bit of research and the GTX660 @ $180 seems to be the leading option currently. Although I'm wondering if a bit more for one of those new R9 cards would be a better investment.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to look at a previous gen card.
You can find some great deals!
you can find a solid 7870 or even a 7950 on sale for your price range. just make sure your psu and cooling can handle the load.thumb.gif

it will also blow a 660ti out of the water.biggrin.gif

if you are strictly on a $200 budget get the MSI R9 270X Gaming or ASUS R9 270 DCII TOP

btw even a stock R9 270X is significantly faster than GTX 660 (12 - 20)% . the R9 270 launched yesterday is also faster than GTX 660. the asus R9 270 dcii top is quietest and easily one of the best. BTW both cards come with a free copy of BF4 thumb.gif

"For the 270X, we’re looking at a straightforward spec up of the 7870, canonized at the $199 price point. Compared to NVIDIA’s current lineup it can’t consistently keep up with NVIDIA’s GTX 760. But at an average of 94% of the GTX 760’s performance it’s no doubt closer than NVIDIA would like, making the 270X a cheaper spoiler, a position AMD excels at. Plus the inclusion of the Battlefield 4 bundle on the AMD goes a long way towards countering NVIDIA’s own bundle, leveling the value proposition there. Otherwise against the GTX 660 the 270X is a full 20% faster on average, which puts the 270X in its own class ahead of the GTX 660. The GTX 660 still holds an edge in power limited scenarios, where its natural competition will be the 270 vanilla, otherwise there’s little reason to get the GTX 660 right now so long as you can afford to part with the further $15-$20."

BF4 at max settings at 1080p is definitely playable on stock R9 270X at 47 fps. overclock it to 1.2+ Ghz to enjoy the game even more. btw thats without mantle which lands next month. with mantle i think your avg fps will be 60+ fps biggrin.gif
