Opening program slow

Previously, our office computer was dreadfully slow starting up and opening programs. I updated it to Win 7 and threw in a SSD (samsung 840) for good measure thinking that would make everything lightening fast like my home comp.

Well, sure it starts up fast and most programs load instantly like I was expecting but there is still one program that we use for accounting (Sage 2014) that takes a while to load up. So what gives?

It a fairly unimpressive system:

Athlon II X2 245 AM3
GA-880GM-UD2H
4GB 1066 DDR3
120GB samsung 840 SSD

Dont' get me wrong, it loads way faster than it did on the old HDD but it's still slower than I would like.

It does run on SATA2 speeds but I can't imagine that's the issue. Would the CPU be a factor in this?

I doubt its your CPU you more than meet the Recommended system requirement.

I got my SSD for OS and Photoshop. Photoshop is still a pretty big App. and takes a bit to load still.

when you say it takes a while to load, are we talking 10 -30 seconds.. or are we in the minute range?

also, did you make sure that you installed it in to the SSD and not an HDD?

Is the SSD in AHCI mode?

Check your RAM Usage? if its nearly full while loading anything up it may slow down.

Yeah maybe 10 seconds. Not a huge amount of time but definitely noticeable from the practically instant loading of other programs. It is definitely loaded onto the SSD and all setting such as AHCI are set properly. I suppose it could just be the large size of the program similar to your experience with photoshop.

I'll check memory load but I suppose it's normal based on the size of the program. Thanks for the insight.

Just counted... 5 seconds to load up and 7 seconds to close. I'm so spoiled by SSD's biggrin.gif
