Draws less power? Not at all. The 780 Ti and the 290X draw the same amount of power.
Stopped reading after that.
Sorry, I've been in way too many 780Ti/780 Classified/R9 290X threads, and it just isn't true.
250 watts vs 300 watts ... stock is NOT "drawing the same amount of power", even when OC'd to their maximum, the R2 290X draws more ... but not by the 50 watt delta.
Then there is NOISE, and there is just no way to get around that. Which is why I guess you went with the after market cooler route. So honestly, unless you are water cooling and/or DEAF, I really wouldn't consider the R9 290X to REALLY be "available" then. It's basically just a card that you either water cool and you have to spend another $120 for a DIY waterblock, or you don't overclock. That is IF you could find it, because up until just very recently, they have been "out of stock" since what pretty much amounted to a "paper launch".
Not so with the GTX 780Ti. Yeah, they are more expensive, but they are quieter, cooler, lower power.
And yes, Mantle isn't out yet, and it is largely unproven. It MIGHT bring 20% on the limited number of games that it WILL run on, or it may only bring 5%, neither you nor I can say for sure. And who knows, maybe Mantle will cause nVidia to make NVAPI better and it too will get a 5-20% performance gain on GK110 chip.
Some of us aren't as price restrained, and other factors play into why the GTX 780Ti is a superior card RIGHT NOW
than the R9 290X.
But I digress.
This isn't an R9 290 or GTX 780 vs AMD thread ... this is a thread about how ONE manufactured screwed up a reference design and is having problems with their GTX 780Ti's,
And as my sig says .... Dear Team Red: Error 404: Gun held to your head forcing you to buy a GTX 780Ti card not found.
