Channel Bonding

Thread Starter
Lately I been trying to maximized what I can get out of my cable internet service. I just recently switched from AT&T U-verse to WOW! cable internet (50 Mbps download/5 Mbps upload). I did several speed tests & on my wired PC I'm getting the speed that I've subscribed for but on my wireless gadgets (iPhone, tablet, game console) the speed is cut more than half for most of the time. I got a dual band wireless N router & my wireless internet components are capable of handling the internet speed I'm getting. I was reading about this article on internet connection & in it it mentioned channel bonding. What is channel bounding? Will it improve my internet connection? How do I bond channels on my internet connection?

Channel bonding on the WAN is irrelevant to your WLAN in this case.

Why is that so?

That about sums it up directly....

You could try using a 40 Mhz wifi channel width and ensure devices are using the 5 ghz band which will probably help.

remember that with 40mhz if another 802.11N is detected your network will step down to 20mhz hence almost pointless

I did tried channel bonding on a Netgear R6300 router. It's good but the speed is not very stable. If there's an overlapping of WiFi signal on same channel the speed gets slower.

Source, please.

The place I've seen channel bonding primarily is in regards bonding ds0's in T1's and also bonding multiple T1's together to create bigger data pipes without having to jump to a full T3. I'm not sure if there's any real gain to trying that on a wireless network.
