[stickskills] Report: Some early PS4 units showing signs of failure - Page 23

So according to Ashuiegi a 1% failure rate will sink Sony rolleyes.gif Interesting how that is the case when Ps3 fat had around a 10% fail rate and the slim had around a 4%, Microsoft original xbox 360 had a 50-56% fail rate and their slim has a 4%, yet I still see these companies going strong and one of them is finally turning profit after 6 years in the red. According to Ashuiegi though they should be sinking with the ps3's fail rate.

The same can be said for Microsoft who had a whopping 50% failure rate on the 360 for the first few batches. All in all Sony and MS did make a profit despite the issues they both faced..and are still here fighting strong and will continue to make a profit.

I re-read this part of your post and every time I do I wonder where your sources are for such a wild assumption, not to mention false information, again I would have to point you to my above paragraph.

It is a very standard failure rate, Please show me a resource where it states Sony is making a loss on the PS4 due to the current failures ? Do you currently know the profit margin for each console they sell ? If not then you cannot even make such an assumption that they are losing money. Please use sources to back up claims like this, you say your laughing hard at consumers who purchase something with a 0.4% failure rate yet all the information you state is false, exaggerated and unsubstantiated so I am not sure what is funny here, me for taking part in a console launch with a standard and expected failure rate or the fact that you throw around miss-information and claims you clearly are unable to backup.

Well actually the estimated Bill of parts is $381 Source. Sony them selves have stated that they are selling the PS4 at an slight loss (but expect to break even if the customer also buys a game and an years PS Plus subscription) Source.

Now I assume that break even point was calculated based on the 0.4% failure rate which is actually an pre-launch number presumably based on QA findings. If it turns out the failure rate is higher then 0.4% then that will naturally push back the break even point.

So the real question is then what is the true real world failure rate? I have no answer for this but my personal view is that the 0.4% failure rate is highly optimistic and based on the what we have seen so fat I'd expect it to end up much higher then that even in just the first year of operation.

I thought they were saying based on what they shipped and the actual number of RMA's they were doing was where the .4 came from. Becuase they said its inline with what they expected. That tells me they were probably okay with something slightly higher but the.4 was based on actual fail rates not expected. I would Imagine its probably more in the 3-5% range after the year.

There was an better source for this but I can't seam to find it

A Sony representative estimated about 0.4% of pre-launch PS4s had technical issues and said this number was within the company's expectations for an at-launch product

Also the 0.4% has been revised by Sony to "less then 1%". Saying some units where damaged during shipping is hardly an excuse as that always happens when this much hardware is shipped around the world. I'm not worried about DOA units. What worries me is the fact that there seams to be a so many units that fail after x amount of operational hours. But we will see. I just hope Sony will be honest and not try to hide the true numbed of failed units whatever it will end up being.

"There have been several issues reported, which leads us to believe there isn't a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units. We also understand that some units were reportedly damaged during shipping. The number of affected PS4 systems is less than 1%, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction," read a statement sent to TechRadar by an SCEA spokesperson.

How can you have a reaction to something that isn't true. There are faulty units, but Sony isn't using the consumers to test their hardware. There are quality control checks at the components level and the final assembly in manufacturing but they are not testing every single unit. This happens in all manufactured goods. Open your eyes. PC hardware isn't perfect.
Oh, I meant I've heard it from the rumors few months ago. biggrin.gif

I just assume PS4 was rushed without inspect and test before launch.

One thing - Shuhei Yoshida denied rumors that PlayStation 4 systems were suffering from the "Red Line of Death" before Launch.

Recently someone posted his console on youtube to prove that RLOD is true!

His denials is unacceptable! But we will see. I just hope Sony will be honest and not try to hide the true numbed of failed units whatever it will end up being.
