Glad to hear that this is getting sorted out. I actually came back to this thread for the express purpose of posting a copy of my email conversation with the Newegg XFX rep about their warranty and the use of aftermarket cooling solutions. Here you go.
My initial mail:
First response. Please note the part that I high-lited in bold
Subject: XFX warranty status as it applies to the use of aftermarket cooling solutions
I'm trying to get a definitive answer as to whether the warranty on an XFX branded video card is voided if the stock cooler is removed and an aftermarket cooling solution is utilized, whether that be air, or water cooling.
Per your warranty page it refers to contacting XFX prior to swapping out cooling solutions so that it can be noted in the records of that particular card. I have also seen comments about returning the item to stock configurations prior to sending it in for RMA repairs, however I have also seen discussions by users that stated their warranty claim was denied on a product for using alternative cooling, even though they had followed the notification stipulations.
Could you please state the official XFX warranty position with respect to the use of aftermarket coolers on your products? It will impact my decision to go with your product, or to go with an alternative brand.
Thank you in advance,

Yes, we allow the use of 3rd party coolers as well as removal of the warranty void stickers. This only applies to North American users.
Second XFX response:
Subject: Re: RE: XFX warranty status as it applies to the use of aftermarket cooling solutions
Thank you for your responce. On a related note, is the advance notification to XFX of the intent to swap out the stock cooler a "recomendation / suggestion", or is it a "requirement" in order to keep the warranty in force?

Suggestion. Some models are not compatible for waterblocks, so its good advice to contact us first, just in case we know something you might not.
Okay, If you have any questions, feel free to contact us and let us know. Mark
So, to summarize, you don't void your XFX warranty by swapping out the cooling solution, that said, while you don't technically have to notify them in advance of your intent, it is probably a good idea and it is probably a better idea to do this in writing so that you can document, if the need ever arises, that you contacted them and you got the go-ahead from the Support department. The notifying to the Support Dept is a simple CYA procedure, that if overlooked, can possibly come back and bite you big-time.Edited by Reefa_Madness - 11/26/13 at 7:48am
