How to: keep your 8800 cool.

Thread Starter
Hi guys. This is just a cheap way to keep your expensive hardware nice and cool. My temps dropped a stunning 20°C

First I used Rivatuner 2.0 to increase the fan control(FC) to 100%.

I have an Antec P180B which has a HDD case in the middle. I added a 120mm Silverstone FM-121 fan (running at about half speed) which blows cool air across my videocard. The FM121 costs $15 @ newegg

I also added an Antec Super Cyclone blower. Which sucks hot air from the videocardcooler (videocard exhaust a lot of hot air through the slots on top of the cooler). Costs about $11,99 hardwareprice.net link

I mounted the blower 1 slot lower then the 8800. So there's 1 slot space. I tried mounting it directly under the videocard but that didnt work.
I know this blower takes up 2 pci slots, but for now I'm not going SLI anyways. When I do, I'll probably get two single slot blowers.

The results:

Room temperature: 19°C

Default speedsTempratures
BFG 8800 GTS (513/792) no fan - no blower - rivatuner 60% 75°C
BFG 8800 GTS (513/792) no fan - no blower - rivatuner 100% 65°C
BFG 8800 GTS (513/792) fan - no blower - rivatuner 100% 60°C
BFG 8800 GTS (513/792) fan - blower - rivatuner 100% 55°C

Overclock speeds
BFG 8800 GTS (600/1000) no fan - no blower - rivatuner 60% 79°C (I forgot to take a screenshot, but believe me it got HOT)
BFG 8800 GTS (600/1000) no fan - no blower - rivatuner 100% 70°C
BFG 8800 GTS (600/1000) fan - no blower - rivatuner 100% 64°C
BFG 8800 GTS (600/1000) fan - blower - rivatuner 100% 59°C

So now I'm waiting for mvktech to release a 8800-compatible version of nibitor. Then I can increase voltage and really oc this baby

I hope you guys and girls can use this info. Comments and critics are welcome.

P.s. Happy new year

I thought the 8800s were really cool by default. I guess not.

The 8800s run hott pushin upper 70s under load. I just put an 80mm fan kinda like your setup right below my gtx and now i hit 673/1010 and with max load it only hit 69 degrees... i would love to watercool my baby but i havent found any good water blocks. I did this fan trick a couple of days ago as a hunch and i was so surprised with the results!

My 8800 at similar temps to your's Carni, i just have extra fans exhausting air in place of a blower.

In fact I believe my temps may be a little lower.

Still, very good work!
