ok well i'm having problems with my core 2 duo laptop that i got for christmas and i may have to return it and if i do i will probably use the $1100 for a new rig. if i do what should i get because i have to prove to my dad that i could get a much better computer than the laptop i currently have. I was thinking i would get a e6600 if possible in that budget, what do you think? if i did that would i be limited as to what video card? i'm not sure exactly and i am open to anything you guys can think of.

the e6400 would probably be in that budget and you could overclock it. I think the mobo/video card are the things you should spend the most money on.

what all do you need everything or just the case with internals.

does that have a good amount of cache?? i think i should be able to OC it well so i'm not so worried about the stock speed as much as i'm worried about getting alot of cache for those great super PI times

i need CPU, mobo, PSU, video card(s), memory, any anything else i missed. i should be able to pick up a nice cheap used LCD at the local store, i have 4 seagates i could put in there, and i have a soundblaster LIVE! 24bit.
EDIT: oh yeah and hopefully an tuniq tower

to convince your dad , be like,
"
Dad, i understand where you are comming from. Try and understand where i am comming from. This computer is great .. blah blah... but dad , i can use this present as something that can help me have a sense of accomplishment and happyness. It will make me feel good that someone cared for me to get this laptop in which i transformed it into something apart of myself."

yeah.. good luck with that... lol

That does look like you have it all planned out nicely, if you could tell us what you will be using it for we could probably help you even further...

well probably some games but not many the only way i would have any chance of getting it is if i can convince him that it would help our computer repair business in the making immensly so i would put my 4 160 gig seagates in there and tell him it would make a great place to store stuff or something.
EDIT: if you can think up a reason to tell him why it would help our growing business it would be great too.
Edit again(i don't want to double post too much): well see that is my big problem is i want all this top of the line stuff but i'm not sure i could use it for anything except bragging rights i did the same thing with the laptop because i wanted a c2d laptop but it has intel graphics so i can't play games well and i don't know how to use all the power... i guess i use it alot when i'm compiling code but... idk. it would be nice if i had the option to get an HDDVD or Bluray drive in the future and hook it up to my LCD tv for movies
