Title says it all

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/11/13/corsair_rm750_750w_power_supply_review#.UoU8Y-KrGcs

Someone has confirmed what i have been saying all along

The RM is nothing special at all and is not worth buying when you can get much better for the same money or less

I love how critical and accurate HardOCP rates their PSUs, and you are right, there really is absolutely no reason to buy this PSU if you have the budget to. Only die hard Corsair fans (blinded by their own brand loyalty) will purchase this psu, and pay for it down the road.

From the first review i have been anything but impressed

Hell its a worse PSU series then the TX series which it is going to replace

If the RM750 and RM850 were a bust, they would've failed at every test but that 50% load one. HardOCP found a weird and totally synthetic scenario which would cause the OTP to kick in and the PSU to shut down. They basically placed the power supply in an incubator with literally no airflow at all. I'd be curious as to why you have mad beef with our (Corsair) hardware now, enough to smear it at every turn. If nothing else, your feedback is something I can take back to the other guys.

Probably should be noted that there's a hardware revision to fix this corner case of a problem. In some time the stock should be the new version.

Also, the manner in which the test was failed is mostly unrelated to previous claims of quality / price / etc. that you've been "saying all along." Most power supplies at MSRP / launch prices aren't that good, really.

This kind of brings to mind, uh... Antec HCG-900 and some others (typically rated at 40C or under) failing their test procedure (higher than 40C ambient) at full load because of OTP tripping. But this case is different and is an actual problem that is being addressed, and some weird conditions in the middle of the load range may be more commonly encountered than those near full load for most users who overbuy on power supplies. This is especially the scenario if somebody is overbuying to get quieter operation on a PSU marketed as quiet.

Anyway, just another option available in a crowded marketplace. The whole omg-its-corsair-it-must-be-good crowd is uninformed and dumb, but making a huge deal out of this (which you aren't, but there being a thread and some of the information not at the top might mislead some) is somewhat daft as well.

At least they are going to fix it and not just leave it be

I dont hate Corsair PSU´s i just think they are overpriced and i just dont care about them so i ignore them

Only one i would call crap is the VS not even the CX deserves that

And how is posting a link to a review daft?

What everyone is conveniently forgetting, is that the big selling point of the RM series is it being supposedly free of coil whine. This is a big deal. Coil whine from electrical devices has become an epidemic, and it's particularly rampant in PSUs. Sure, I can go and buy another Seasonic X etc. which will be technically superior, but there's a good chance it'll have some ridiculous level of coil whine like my last 4/5 units did.

Now I'm not saying that coil whine is definitely 100% resolved in the RM series. It hasn't been out for long enough for us to get a good picture of that. But the point is that Corsair have actually aknowledged it as a problem, and apparently made an attempt to resolve it in the RM series.

It's stupidity to act like there is absolutely no reason to consider these units. They were never marketed as high end units. They were marketed as as affordable units with an emphasis on low noise components. And before anyone starts with the "well my existing PSU has no coil whine...", no one cares. I have an X-660 with no coil whine too, cool story. It's still a massive issue, with no shortage of 'bad' units and complaints across the internet.

The issue [H] found has been resolved already. Another 'issue' has been found in the RM650, but in practical terms it's a non issue (as asserted by the reviewer who found it). That said, these issues do suggest some sub-standard testing/QC which is a shame. Contradicting responses from the rep in the news thread also concern me a little.

As always, the best option is to wait a while for widespread adoption and more user feedback, and for any more bugs to be ironed out before purchasing. If your an idiot and play the early adoption game like me, then you're just asking for trouble, because it's no secret that consumers are used as testers these days.

I was thinking of getting this psu when non-reference 290x comes out. The reason is that Frys sells this psu and it seems like the best choice out of all at Frys. I like to buy electrical components at stores because I might get a DOA. Do you guys recommend anything else?

Newegg has a crazy sale on this PSU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103087

42% or 80$ off normal price

10$ less then the RM and way better as well as 100 watts more
