AP/Router/Switch or Wireless Router/Switch??

So the house i purchased 2 years ago came completely wired with cat5 connections for phone and network. in my basement i have a honeywell network case inbetween 2 joyces. it includes a switch on the left side, router and phone switch on right side.

currently have just ran incoming connection to a Trendnet wireless router, then from there to the switch. not utilizing the router at all (which is not wireless). well i think my trendnet is about to take a crap.

My question is this.. Should i run the incoming connection to the router, then the switch, then hang a wireless access point off that or should i just continue not using built in router and buy another wireless one? my important connections in the house are wired (computer, game systems) so the only wireless is phones, laptops, and tablets.

Hey quattro, if you are looking to get the most out of your internet speed, the fastest solution would probably be to invest in a good router for your incoming connection, then run a cable from that to the switch to get your wall connections active. Any 10/100 switch will do you fine for this solution. I would also recommend hanging your AP off of your router instead of your switch, or simple investing in a high quality wireless router, with some strong antennaes on it. A good wireless router will get you 4-5 bars across your whole house.
