I think that may be a PWM limitation, which especially becomes an apparent issue on thick radiators, my thermaltake has the same problem and idles audible unless I switch the mobo to use power instead of PWM, only problem then is it allows the fluid to overheat because of no airflow through it ( ~22 fin density ).

Solidly built item with some clever engineering decisions made in designing the unit. Installation instructions could be a lot clearer though. Some necessary steps aren't included eg I'm pretty sure the metal ring that fits round the cpu only works when orientated a certain way, but this is not mentioned and my first effort at screwing on the cooler was met with frustration.

The cooling is excellent with around 10 degrees C knocked off my first gen i7's temps and a general improvement in case temps. I was disappointed by the Antec Grid software though. A v2.0 is available from their website which is more stable than the v1.0 included on the bundled CD. However it still offers limited control and mine will always override the Silent setting and run the pump and fans at 1200 rpm minimum, no matter what the PC is doing. It would be helpful to be able to set the Kuhler to run Silent up to a user-defined temperature as there is plenty of overhead available given the cooling power of the unit compared to a stock cooler. Without this option, the 950 seems noisier than all but the cheapest air coolers at the same loads..

I like the hardware but I found the soft product a bit lacking.

Thanks for sharing your first post on OCN with us smile.gif!
Appreciated and honest feedback right there!

I've yet to get my hands on the 950

I think this was the issue on the Version 1 fan configuration. That's why the version 2 fan was revised and the airflow has improved. We are just waiting for the new units to be shipped out soon. thumb.gif

Thanks for the comments and suggestion taxdisc, we will implement that on the revised version of the Grid software.

We will be changing the back plate design soon so you can mount the bracket much easily

Right now, the prototype is Plastic but the threaded screws are metal. We used to have this in metal but there was issues with touching the leads on the motherboard that's why we had it back to plastic. Plus, cost is alot cheaper on Plastic.

you guys can still suggest to have the back plate to metal if you like. Please e-mail to suggestions@antec.com, we always listen to our customers thumb.gif
