4770K / 4820K or VGA upgrade?

Thread Starter
Hi, I was planning on building a new so I can play BF4 with my friends this winter, but im not sure if I should go with a 4770K being a haswell or a 4820k which is an old architecture but with quad channel.
Now to me even that the 4820 was released this year it seen that ill be building something new with old tech,
I know it's probably just me but i cant stop thinking about spending on a new build to have a ivy bridge which is about 2 years old if that makes any sense.

Now my other idea is to upgrade my 6970 to a new graphic and keep my 2600k on it but i dont know how good of a upgrade that would be to play bf4..

Please help me understand the cpu tech and if i should start a new one or just upgrade my vga for now and hold for another year

Ty

Yeah, no reason yet at all to upgrade from a 2600K, grab an R9 290 since BF4 will be majority of your gaming, and when Mantle is released shortly you can have a nice performance boost for a lot less than a complete overhaul. I recommend waiting until the aftermarket cards are released with better cooling though.

Upgrade the GPU, but you might be platform bound in BF4 without some serious overclocking. That game is very CPU dependent, but it requires a high end GPU as well. I would say that there is no point in just upgrading the CPU though, since you wouldn't see an increase in performance, where upgrading the GPU would definitely yield gains. I'm not sure if you're lucky enough to have a microcenter close by, but you can get a killer deal on an IB/IB-E/Haswell CPU/MB combo. You can get a 4670K with board for less than $300 even!

buy 1 R9 290 when they get aftermarket cooling or a cheaper solution is buying a R9 280X

No idea but I would wait on it! Maybe another 1 or 2 months from now? Unless you want to go GTX 780 or just grab a stock cooler 290 for $400. I was in the same boat as you thinking of doing a full upgrade but now I plan on just getting a 290 with aftermarket cooler, new case, and a SSD.
