Assistance with 2 HD setup..Please.

Thread Starter
I am currently doing a refresh on my sig rig(Soprano) by removing the aged hard drives with 2 new Toshiba lap top hard drives. I want to set them up in raid configuration only problem is when installing the Win 7 Ultimate 64 it does not work for some odd reason. The setup gets started then says can not install on system. Then my next question its the Kbt's per sector....What would be better lower or higher?

Thanks in advance,
Chuck D

You have to install the RAID drivers at the beginning of the install process, when it asks about drivers.
Then, after it copies all it's files and the install program reboots to finish, interrupt that reboot, enter the BIOS and set the array (that wasn't there before) as the boot device, Save, reboot and finish the install.

There is no best or correct bits per sector, If you're going to be copying a lot of small files, then less bits/sector, big files, more bits/sector. For almost everyone the default works the best.

Thanks Bill. The Asus Commando motherboard has the raid set up in BIOS that I have used before. I can plug both drives in and setup the raid. When I go to use the Windows recovery image it kills the setup up. I tried back to back times last nite and still no luck. As it is reading from my external storage and writing to the raid config. I see both external and raid hard drives working. If it doesn't work its not a problem (Storage use for later) just wanted to see if I could set 2 lap top sata hard drives up as the main drive.
New:
Toshiba
500Gb
x2

Old:
Seagate
250GB
Western Digital
250GB

All running sata II on board.
I figured both the new Toshibas .. even if laptop drives .. should be faster and better than 5yr old big hard drives with double the storage.

System update:
C2Extreme QX6700
4 Gig Corsair
Dell OEM GTX 555
BFG 9600gt physics x

I use a USB dock.

I've use it for the last year or so with two single drives and raided as both 0 and 1. Never had a problem
