Samsung Migration Software?

Thread Starter
Picking up a 128GB Samsung 840 SSD Tomorrow. Will the Samsung software clone the whole drive or will it allow me to clone a single partition to the new SSD? I am currently Running a 640GB HDD and will be adding the SSD for an OS and APP drive. My 640GB HDD is partitioned to 200GB Boot/OS and the remainder has my Steam folder and other game installs. I plan on cloning my Boot/OS partition to the SSD, and then using Gparted to re-size my 640GB HDD to total Capacity. Will the Samsung software work for me or is there better cloning software available?

Best thing to do is use the 64gb as the OS drive. It will boot your computer lightning fast and the low write frequency of the OS will make the thing last forever. Traditionally migration from mechanical to SSD doesn't always work all that well.

Well in case any one else has the same question I did, The Samsung Migration Software worked. It gave me no options though. Your pretty much stuck if it chooses a configuration you do not want. I'm pretty sure if my second partition had less data it would have copied too. Used Seans Guide to optimize my Windows 7 Install, and Gparted to resize my old HDD to full capacity. SSD is Fast and I love it. Wish they were cheaper so I could ditch my HDD all together. Here's my Samsung Magician Bench.

There is a second option if you have a new enough machine (I don't). There's this thing where you set up your SSD and mechanical drive as one device, and use the SSD as cache for the mechanical drive. Supposed to give you a drive the size of the mechanical, that is only a bit slower than the SSD for common tasks.

I may try that when I'm ready to reinstall my OS. Just not wanting to do that atm. I'm more than happy with this upgrade. should have done it sooner. I also needed the extra space of my HDD.
