Internal SD CF Card Readers...

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for internal (or external if possible) SD CF card readers... the readers I've researched on Newegg all seem to be USB 3.0 and not SATAII or SATAIII. My wife is a photographer and I would like to get her a very good reader for her computer with the fastest read/write time and I think SATAIII would be the best to find but hard to find.

Any photographers on here that have good hardware give a man a hand? Thanks! thumb.gif

This is what I use. One single USB 3.0 motherboard plug (not a silly pass-through cable). Incredibly fast transfer speeds. I use the Lexar Professional CF cards 1000x. I'll have to pay better attention to exact upload speeds, but it SCREAMS.

AFAIK, I can't think of any card readers that transmit via SATA.

You can find CF to SATA adapters easily since CF use the ATA protocol.

SD cards do not so you can probably only find USB adapters for them.

In an all-in-one unit, you will probably find both CF and SD using USB since it's cheaper.

I see a lot of USB 3.0 card readers that look great but unfortunately I have a H67MS-E33 Motherboard that doesn't have USB 3.0 mad.gif

Big "what if":

USB 3.0 Card with internal port

Would that make sense?

Should work. For $17 i'd run a pass-through cable though.

Yeah, USB 3.0 flash drives, even four, shouldn't saturate just one PCIe lane. If she's really in to photography, I'd be careful. A lot of the CF readers out there have very shallow slots with almost nonexistent rails, and bent pins are rampant. Something like THIS or THIS should be good though. They're SATA II, but that's fast enough. I don't think CF cards can get too much faster than SATA I.
