My system is:
-ASUS Sabertooth 990fxa R.2 mobo
-patriot DDR3-1600 Extreme viper 3 8GB
-Mushkin 750w PSU (extremely old, from my old Q6600 system)
-Powercolor 7870 myst
really old swifttech kit ( bought it when I had a pentium 4 lol). including:
-swifttech cpu block that surprisingly fit the AM3 socket and seems to work well with the 8320
-swiftech universal VGA block that happend to fit the 7870
I have a BeQuiet powerzone 1000w headed to my house as we speak. That old 750w was giving my lots of problems.
I currently work in a camp and only have 7 days off a month, 2 of those day being travel time. So I do not have the time or want to spend that time trying to sell the myst. although that would prob be the smartest way to go.
I am having a LAN party on my Christmas vacation with some good friends that havent all been in one place together is quite some time. I wanted to get this 7970 as a christmas gift to myself (putting in some hard hours up here and its finally paying off, Though I don't have alot to spend), and it would also give us the ability to properly use the SoftXpand software for one of my buddies who likely cant bring his machine.
My current thinking is that I can get the 7970 now, even it it becomes a 7870myst in Xfire. I will see a performance boost, n can always disable the Myst if Xfire is causing problems in games and still have more performance over the 7870. Then later down the line I could always get another 7970 or 280x when they get even cheaper (possible sell the 7870 then). Then I'd have the full power of 2 7970's.
Idk if this is making any sense. Its been a long day lol.
huzzugs advice seems to be the best tho. Wait n save my money for something better. Just been so long since I could afford to buy myself something new and shiny. Afraid if I don't do it now or soon that money will go to something else n I will not get the chance again. I don't see doing a full system upgrade or being able to spend $500 in one go in the foreseeable future.
Thanks for reading guys. Any advice?
This is the card im looking to get: Re-certified powercolor 7970
. Also can anyone tell me if this is a reference PCB, I'd also like to get a waterblock for it eventually.
