Recommend me headphones for gaming

I owned a Logitech G35 headset which has broken a SECOND time, i am tired of this bad design .

Its really weak on that part connected where it pivots, its a thin piece of plastic that can easily break. I was just putting my headphones on my head and it snapped. I was so confused, i wasnt even being harsh. This has happened twice now. I have to go through another week of RMA unfortunately....

Budget: $50-75 (may go higher if its really worth it)
I play Battlefield 4 only, listen to music occasionally mostly EDM (Progressive Trance, Drum & Bass).
I want surround sound, 5.1 or 7.1? does it matter?
It can be wired, dont think i can afford wireless
No USB, i hear that direct to my motherboard is a lot better quality than USB audio drivers.

Might i add: I am okay with headphones + a mic if the headphones are much b etter

Can you guys suggest something good in my budget? Or maybe even a little more? (no more than 100). I enjoyed my Logitech G35 in terms of sound (impress me with a better one if you can suggest one thumb.gif

Even tho it's not a headset, it's the best audio set up i've ever had for my PC. It's great for music (I listen to DnB and indie electro and stuff like that mostly) and even better in gaming, i play competitive cs:go and i hear details in game better than my friends who have plastic "gaming headsets"

Thanks for the suggestion Epikk! Is this headset surround sound? I especially need it when flying helicopter. I need to know exactly where the RPG that almost killed me came from. rolleyes.gif

I am also open to microphone + headphones as well !

I have these, and those are the best ones I've ever had. biggrin.gif

I specially like the pull-out microphone, since you can push it in when you don't need it, so it's not in the way (for example, when you are eating)

I don't think they are surround, but your soundcard can handle that. It's better to have one big driver inside the cans than many small ones to create "7.1" audio, ask any audio enthusiast and they mostly agree.
For example, when i play counter-strike, i can hear excatly where the enemy is moving, what they are picking up, at what point of the bomb site the bomb is planted and so on. I Used to also play high level competitive bf3 with these, they were great!
I used to have Fatal1ty gaming headset before these, and i couldn't even hear bombs being picked up in cs:go rolleyes.gif

Forgot to mention about the modmic thumb.gif

I apologize.

Im on my phone and i barely read the OCN headphones guide and i just learned its possible to have better sound on stereo headsets than the "gimmicky" 5.1 setups.

I am such a noob to these things. Ok well that fits exactly in my budget what can you say about those Steelseries headset that was recommended?

Thanks again for the speedy reply! I am planning on purchasing by the end of tonight.

Surround is not gimmicky as a whole. Lets begin with the 2 main ways to produce headphone surround (Click to show)
1. HRTF/Binaural simulation
Head-related transfer funtion (HRTF for short).
Softwares like Razer Surround, Dolby Headphones, etc. use this technology to produce the surround sound in software level.

2. "Real" surround
Produced by putting multiple drivers inside the headphones. Same principle as surround speakers so they produce surround in hardware level.
Usually craptastic as you need to divide the money between ~8 drivers which makes individual driver quality pretty bad.
"Real" surround headphones have the same principle as surround speakers so the only thing they need is a soundcard with 5.1/7.1 support.
HRTF/Binaural headphones are software based so they need a soundcard/software to work.

G35 for example is Dolby Headphones headset, so you can get equal surround with Xonar DGX and any stereo headphones.

Surround headphones (simulated or "real") are best in games that do not have the binaural simulation integrated, for example Battlefield 3 has the binaural simulation but Battlefield 2 doesn't.
No binaural simulation = bad surround

Correct. After all, humans indeed have just two ears, so one channel for each is enough. biggrin.gif As for the "surroundiness", as Aesthethc said, your soundcard and/or drivers and/or the game itself takes care of tuning the audio so that you hear the sound the way you would in real life (sounds from the front and back sound a bit different). My friend had one of these "5.1 surround headphones" that cost around 150 euro, and the sound quality sucked big time. All deep sounds were inaudible due to all the speaker elements being so small, and the difference to a stereo headset, like the Steelseries Siberia V2 that I linked, were huge. I would never buy any 5.1 or 7.1 headphones.

There you go, forget about the Plasticseries. But if you really need a micboom then I can understand the Plasticseries.
