Anyone had a VRAM bottleneck with 2GB?

Thread Starter 
Has it happened to anyone gaming at up to 2560x1600? I thought 2GB of VRAM wasn't enough for 1440p but so far all the games I played were ok with that amount. Even Crysis 3 doesn't use 2GB of VRAM at 1440p. Anyone hit the VRAM wall yet? What's the game? The settings? Mods or no mods?

Bf4 on ultra, @ 1080 uses upto 2.2gb, I had to lower some to high to stop stuttering frown.gif

What's your GPU? BF4 on Ultra at 1080p and 4xMSAA allocates 1.5GB of VRAM.

I can tell you right now, 2GB isn't enough and while you might not see terrible performance issues from it, there are stuttering and framerate drops associated with having to constantly swap out textures etc. You can definitely see it in Crysis 3 and BF4 when you start adding additional AA and res scaling or downsampling. I have pleny of power to run those settings but vram constraints cause "minor" issues. Plenty of games I see 1900MB-2000MB.

I always see this guru3d article being thrown out saying that only 1.5GB of VRAM is used with 4x MSAA; but the test video they did was on single player, not multiplayer.

I can get great frames with minimal dips at 2x MSAA but as soon as i put on 4x MSAA i start to run out of VRAM at situations where i jump into water/buildings falling down and breaking/explosions and fire going everywhere...

There is no way only 1.5GB is used with 4x MSAA unless you play single player all day and never touch multiplayer rolleyes.gif

I can only imagine 4x MSAA using slightly more MB probably 100-200 more. When i knock down my MSAA my VRAM usage goes down to 1700MB (High FXAA - 100% res scale)

This is what i get for Conquest Large 64players Ultra Preset, 2x MSAA instead of 4x MSAA (i cap out 2042MB) High FXAA and 100% Resolution Scale



This is for Team Deathmatch 64 players Same Settings
