Mugen 3 Rev. B PCGH odd idle temp

Hio!

So I changed from water cooling to air a while ago and in my old case/antec p182b) my e8400 @ 3.6GHz with 1.23v idled 39/38 degrees C and loaded 50/51 then I changed case to a corsair vengeance c70 (have 7 case fans installed) and now I load 41/42 degrees but I still idle 38/39.. I find this a little weird? seeing as I am idling with speedstep setting the cpu at 2400MHz @ 1.12v.

Could a bad seating be giving me these temps? I am currently using Phobya HE Grease Extreme as TIM.

in all honesty. nobody really cares about idle temp biggrin.gif only load temp matters. yes it does seem strange, that your idle is high like that. but we have no idea what your fan profile is like. maybe your fans aren't even spinning at idle. run a few prime + heaven/furmark sessions and see what your load temp really is. if it's fine, then don't worry about it.

Mugen 3 surprised me to with a small spread of temperatures between idle and full load. My Phenom II 965BE OCed to 4.2 GHz runs at 30s C at idle and 54 C max at full load. I attribute that to a small heat/ spreader mounted underneath the main one. I have 2 x 120 mm fans with speed up to 2200 rpm and mounted low so air is forced over that small one. BTW, 2 fans mounted in push-pull config made only 2 - 3 C difference against only one at full load.
