I don't really record very much (maybe occasionaly when I need to show a friend something), I don't do any streaming and I plan to put two cards in SLI / Crossfire. Thanks for the help. smile.gif

I will give more detail if needed.

I would go with the 290 just for the price/performance. It's 100 dollars cheaper and is just as fast if not faster than the gtx 780. I would however wait till some aftermarket pcbs and coolers are released because the r9 series cards run so hot. Idk how well the cards perform overclocked against each other, but amd's reference cooler doesn't leave you much headroom. If it were me I would put it under water anyways though

get a R9 290 and slap a custom cooler or wait for custom r9 290 cards like asus dcii top or his iceq x2

http://www.techspot.com/review/736-amd-radeon-r9-290/page8.html

"Update: Based on your feedback, I took the IceQ X2 cooler off the HIS Radeon R9 280X and stuck it on our R9 290 sample. Cooling was dramatically improved. The FurMark stress test maxed out at 76 degrees while the card never exceeded 63 degrees in Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4. So it seems as expected the board partners will be able to solve the heat issues of the reference card."

Definitely go with a Radeon R9 290 like others are suggesting. It will perform better and at a lower price point with more VRAM too.

I'm in the same boat myself.. 780 SLI or 290 CFX.. I have 2 Windforce GTX 670's in SLI currently. How good are the CFX drivers? How about frame pacing @2560x1600?

Thanks for all the help guys, really 'preciate it. smile.gif
Also, there has been rumours floating around stating that if you load a 290X BIOS onto your 290 you can unlock all the extra shaders and it will be classed as a 290X by software and you're saving, what, like £120?

Yes, I wouldn't rely on the 290 - 290x yet though. Definately a 290 if going watercooling, but if not, definately wait for custom coolers on the 290. The 780 is a great card, but the 290 is much better price/performance. Also, AMD does seem to be growing as a company! thumb.gif
