Making hard drives read-only

Thread Starter
Is there any way in the BIOS to keep a hard drive from being written to or just hidden? I need to keep Windows 8 from "repairing disk errors" which are just another kind of formatting. Windows XP apparently does something a little differently in it's NTFS from Windows 8, because every time Windows 8 does repairs, Windows XP tries to repair the repairs. It can't be actual drive errors because all four are listed for repair in the Windows XP bootup screen. I want to be able to let Windows XP access certain hard drives, and Windows 8 to be able to access the other ones.

My motherboard is ASRock 960GM/U3S3

A BIOS is independent of an OS. There are no OS specific control in a BIOS.

Use Windows Administrative Control. remove the "write".
Right-click on the partition volume (say F drive) >> properties >> security tab
