I could see if had expensive everything else but that ram will be a waste as it is made for serious performance enthusists. People with more along the lines of a 400-600 buck GPU system and loads of other crap. I would put that 80 bucks somewhere else or something becuase it almost seems like a waste. Like for example a 7950GT instead of the X1950PRO.

BUT if you aboslutley dont have anything else to throw 90 bucks into then go ahead as that is some very powerful ram. Just seems like a waste to me if you have something you can upgrade besides that
The E6300 can easily reach the 500Mhz FSB that the high end ram will allow. Remember, the largest bottleneck in a computer system (Core 2 Duo) is the memory bandwidth.

I suggest these as they are 60 bucks cheaper but still damn hardware

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231084

Well paul tell me then in your expert opinion what will yield higher marks and FPS

Two E6300 OC'd to 3.5:

One is on Cas 4 RAM at 500mhz and an X1950PRO

One is on Cas 5 RAM at 500mhz with a 7950GT

If he is on a budget what one will outperform the other at the same price?
post #44 of 90
I'd say:

E6300 = ~$100 a GB
E6400 = About the same
E6600 = ~$150 to $200 per GB
6700-6800 = Spend at least $200 per GB

E6300 = $181
DS3 = $144
OCZ 4-4-4-15 = $95

I've seen 3.15Ghz on my $95 'value' (wink wink) RAM, it's not hard with a C2D. Would I get better ram for it in the future? Hell no it's a E6300 and besides the OCZ Gold + that pimping chipset heatsink make my whole computer just look too gangsta.

That is not a good way to look at it. You see, by buying quality, high end memory you are guaranteeing the future of your system. CPUs and videocards will come and go, but you will still be using that high end memory.

That is why it is important not to skimp on certain parts of your build. Because, if done properly, these parts will last through several CPUs and several GPUs.

Those parts are:

PSU
memory
HDDs
CD Drives
Cooling Devices

and to some extend motherboard.

Now, you want to save $60 and get that G.Skill. But for all we know, G.Skill could be packing those with Promos. That is not saving $60, That is wasting $250.

I have the exact same ram and we've already went over this saying that unless my RAM is some superman version of the ram it will work fine. I can reach CAS 4-4-4-10 easily at 450FSB as my ram reaches max speed of around 590.

Also it is a fine way to look at it if your on a budget. Not everyone has the money to buy ram close to the same price as you, and your running an 8800GTS. So I'm telling him this ram will suit his every need and then some. And i know it can reach 590mhz and most likley that will be enough to hold him a while. I agree that you should plan a head a bit. This RAM is ALREADY ahead of the game right now so in a year it would be still sufficient enough.

You were lucky. G.Skill doesn't guarantee D9 (which it seems you got). What volts are you running that at?

DDR2-800 will not be sufficient in a year when he hit the 1333Mhz bus. If he wished to get a new CPU at that point, he would need new memory too. With 1000Mhz (D9) memory, he would be fine.

In a year he is going to want to replace his videocard (probably sooner because of DX10). The memory will outlive whatever video card he gets now, making it more significant.

Everyone else I have ever known to have those memory( which is around 8) after talking and some people I recomended have reach above 500mhz. Once again unless all the people I know and me were lucky people to get above 500mhz superman RAM...

Also i'm running the max my mobo lets me which is 2.15v..even at these volts the ram never gets that hot at all
