I swear I just read somewhere that Buffalo may have switched the Firestix to promos chips. Can anyone confirm/disprove this? I don't know if it may be true.

Ya sora, you obviously know more about which Gskills OC well, than I do. I have never bought any Gskills myself, so never have read much about which one's are good. I have always known that HZ's were good stuff. All I was saying is that mid priced to cheaper stuff + D9 don't usually mix. I know the stuff you have isn't that cheap, I can see D9's on ram of that price. You just don't find D9 at that price very often, I thought the Buffalo firestix were about as cheap for D9's you could get. If Gskill is giving D9 at those prices, great for them and their rep with OC'ers, makes me think more highly of them anyway. Ram shouldn't be so dam expensive!!

edit- Sora is right dude, you want 2x1gb sticks to have best chance of good OC. 4 sticks usually won't OC as well. So don't get 2 512's for now, and add 2 more later, or anything like that. Get 2 1gb sticks now, or if you must 1 stick for now and a second 1g stick later of the same stuff. I always like to do it all at once though, and buy a matching kit.

There is none. Sora, you're thinking of AMD's IMC. That thing can't handle 4 sticks of RAM. Intel on the other hand, has no issues what so ever doing such a thing. I'd go with 2x2GB though just cuz I'd like the idea of having 8GBs at one point.

It is not good to say things that you are not sure about or you have heard via rumor as being true. People are buying hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of hardware. We wouldn't want them to base their decisions off of incorrect rumors.

Ah well as I said my mistake its just that I've heard it so much and no one ever challenged the statement that I swore it to be true to some degree.

Yup. Little research never hurt anyone!

Lol me too, I've always just heard that, so it's driven into my brain. I know it's for AMD from what I've read in the past about the mem controller, but I've heard it many times for intel too, for socket 478 stuff anyway and DDR. Is it different now with DDR2 and newer mobo's? I've read many times about Intel boards and/or the ram, not AMD stuff, that they wouldn't OC as well with 4 sticks as opposed to 2. Maybe it's changed now I guess? I've just always thought the general rule was that 2 sticks hits higher fsb than 4.
