Anyone who's had a good few (and old) video cards knows that's not hot. A single slot 8800GT in need of a reseat... now that's hot.

Well I don't know the exact throttling temp but going by the jaguar's in laptops its safe to say its good for at least 90°C before throttling. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the T max on the desktop 7850 105 °C though most won't get over 80°C even when OC'd.

My guess is that if something craps out due to heat on the PS4 its not going to be the SoC it self (assuming the cooler does not fail).

oh..everyone of us accepting 60c is not hot.

I still remember when Pentium 3 is running @ 30c, then Athlon were running 50-60c everyone complaining it is hot. rolleyes.gifbiggrin.gif 60-70w is widely considered HIGH power consumption.

With 290x pushing 95c now, I guess in 5more years 80c will be the new 60c.biggrin.gif

But the real question is how long will it last if you run it like this?

56C is pretty much max temp for AMD chips (at least from what I can see from most of them), and I'm not sure it will last all that long if you use it for gaming 3-4 hours/day.

I also bet that these chips you are talking about are monitoring themselves with thermal cameras.lachen.gif

While I can't find any info for jaguar, I think the max temp for APU's is higher. The max temp specs for most desktop APU's are listed as 74C vs CPU's at 61C.

Oh well, I'm off to buy a pan for my eggs, as the PS4 doesn't seem to be that multifunctional console as the PS3 was redface.gif

I'm sure that the 62C nonsense for AMD is just because of the location of the temperature sensor or how it works. Like for example, there's no way an 8350/9370/9590 runs at below 60C while at 100% load, it's not possible with normal cooling methods (AIO, large tower heatsinks).

I don't know why people still think AMD max temps are 62C.  It was for Phenom IIs, but those have been discontinued for a while now, not sure why that 62C number keeps getting thrown around.
