People returning PS3s - Page 4

Ah well, its some preference and some fact... For example, maybe you've been a die-hard Sony/Microsoft for quite awhile, and due to that you prefer one over the other. Or maybe, you do indeed think one is better than the other for various reasons. PS3's more expensive, but with due time I think Sony might manage to fix something for once. and if they do then the PS3 will indeed have potential. X360 has better stuff for it since it has been out longer and Microsoft didn't try to put some difficult to manage Processor. Anyway, mostly preference some facts. No matter what anyone says someone will disagree. So pick what you like and screw everyone else's thoughts...
'bout time.

I've been using my HDTV with DVDs for five years now, it's fine. Upgrading to HD video discs is going to be another one of those things that you don't really need and can easily live without indefinitely...until you have it for a while, then you can't imagine going back.

So I'm in no hurry to get either format, DVD is fine. Is HD-DVD better? Certainly! Am I willing to throw my eggs into one basket or the other in the format wars? Absolutely not! I'll wait until Blu-Ray officially dies, or the dual-format players are reasonable priced, before I jump in. I'm not about to own the next Betamax or Laserdisc player.

Aha, this is the point that most of the "But $600 is a good price because it has a Blu-Ray!!!!" fanboys like to conveniently omit. Blu-Ray has zero impact on gaming, despite Sony's ridiculous claims to the contrary. It has been empirically proven that, based on historical growth rates, game sizes are extremely unlikely to need Blu-Ray's storage capacity at anytime in this generation's life span (fice years); and that some current PS3 games actually fit onto a frickin' 4.7GB DVD-R when you strip out the filler crap.

So Sony didn't do it for any reasons involving gaming. It was the movie playback functions that drove the whole deal. They want to own the next de facto movie playback standard so that they can get a license fee on every last movie sold to anyone in the world. And the way to make your standard into THE standard is to make sure everyone on Earth has your hardware that can play your discs. And in its arrogance, Sony assumed that everyone on Earth would buy a PS3 regardless of price. That's not conjecture; they're on record saying as much, that people would buy it at any price. (Idiots. Take Econ 101, you fools.) So they added the Blu-Ray and raised the price of the PS3 to a historic high for a gaming console (50% more than the average mainstream console launch price, adjusted for inflation), all to make money with Blu-Ray movies. And severely tarnished the Playstation brand name in doing so. Someone at Sony needs to be kicked in the rear end.

Now, in closing, to all of the fanboys who have posted meaningless drivel in this thread: This was an example of a post with what we like to call "content". Notice how I am clearly still strongly biased and am expressing strong opinions. But see all that other stuff? That's called "content" that explains why I have those opinions. Please at least make an attempt to explain your opinions in the future. Example: "Wii suxxorz!!! PS3 pwns!!!!"...bad. "The Wii sucks! The PS3 is way better because...reason 1....reason 2...." etc....good!

I played Wii sports over the New Year weekend. Great game, though I still can't get a hold of the controls for boxing (yeah I got owned =\\). The graphics on the Wii are exactly what I'd expect from nintendo, nothing overhyped but still beautiful. For $250 I could see myself going out and getting this even with my current computer, it's not going to break the bank and is actually cheaper than just my video card was.

I've been playing X360 since it first came out. I've enjoyed great games like Oblivion, Saints Row, Gears of War, and quite a wide selection of the arcade games. Yeah, Bejeweled sucked me in. It's exactly what I expected of Microsoft, and maybe a bit more.

Yesterday I finally got to lay my hands on one of these fabled $1,000, (on eBay at least) BluRay weilding, Motion sensing, Looks like a george foreman grill, consoles. First off the motion sensing made me mad. It wasn't pulled off as well as the Wii's, but then maybe i'm a bit prejudice since I played the Wii first. I played a few games, none to impressive graphically. I had heard FEAR was going to be a launch title but unfortunately my friend is an RPG fan

I would definately buy a PS3 though once I start seeing some for $200 in pawn shops in a year or two.

people keep say " I like the 360 but the PS3 controller is far better." I don't see much of a differance. They both hav 2 sticks and 4 triger button, a D-pad and 4 top buttons. If anything I would be leaning the other way. The ps3 controler is way to light and feels kind of cheap. I like the rumble feture in games and they took it out of the PS3 controller. It is true that the PS3 dose the the motion sensore so that is in it favor...all in all though I don't think there is much differance.

That said I hooked up a wireless KB and mouse to my PS3 and though it will work for navigating the menus and the playstation.net stuff it dose not work in game. I think both systems need to get this feture up and running smooth. It would make the systems so much better.

I haven't played a PS3 yet (there's always some kid hogging the machine at Best Buy...grrr!!!), and I don't have my Wii yet...but I was wondering about this. The Wii's controller, while it may look weird, was specifically designed for the motion control use. And since we are not used to it, we are probably very open to using it the way that we are told it is "supposed" to be used.

But the PS3's controller looks exactly like the other Dual Shocks we have been using for 10 years. Now I absolutely love the Dual Shock, I'm already on record saying that it remains my favorite controller of any console I have owned. But that might be a mental block: I already have a preconception of how a Dual Shock should be used. Motion sensing might not be intuitive at best, or it might actually get in the way at worst. And maybe it could be an easier decision for developers to just not bother with motion control at all, since we already know what to expect from a Dual Shock game.

Pure conjecture, but it was something I had wondered about.

The ps3's motion sensing(If you can even call it that) Is horrendous. From my experiences with it it will work sometimes and then 2 seconds later you are off a cliff. The wii on the other hand works almost flawlessly. The wii has much more potential.

lol i remember those big old laserdisc players. those things sucked. they had the discs that were bigger than frisbee's.... and they were a ton slower than DVD's.

The ps3 motion-sensing is barely motion sensing at all. I have madden 2007 for it and you can move the control straight up , straight down, or left or right, so it doesnt really control your guy that much. But i like the PS3 beacuse when running at 480i the thing looks better than Xbox 360.
