Looking to do a new build, with high end components

Thread Starter
I am looking to upgrade my computer heavily. ATM I have a 7970 WC, 3770k, asus z68 deluxe gen 3, 2133mhz 8gb team xtreme ram, corsair 1200w psu. The cpu and gpu are all water cooled by a mcp 35x pump and 2 360 radiators.

I am wanting to upgrade to the new intel 4930k cpu, the new asus IV Black Extreme motherboard that is coming out November 19th, however I am wondering if I should upgrade my ram, and or psu as well?

I am going to water cool the cpu, if i do get the 4930k cpu. I also will upgrade my ssd to a 256gb M5 Crucial. Do you guys think I need to upgrade to the 1300w psu? and maybe upgrade to 16gb ram? Is it better to have slower ram, but more of it, or faster ram, and less of it?

I also most likely will either grab another 7970 or just sell my 7970 and get a 290x.

The case I have now is the 932 Coolmaster, but id really like the new Corsair 900d or a case labs case as well.

Thanks, let me know your opinions!

for gaming you dont need more than a 3770K and 8gb ... buy a R9 290X instead

It could be old firmware on those Crucial M4s.

Yeah before just burning money on a new rig. I would start with installing all the newest drivers and firmwares for your components. Including doing the newest bios flash. For gaming, all you really need to do is add a second 7970 or grab a 290.

I can empathise with your want to upgrade, it's so much fun! But as stated above, I don't think it would get you much bang for buck. If in your position I'd just upgrade my GPU to a 290X and WC it. Those babies appear made to WC. That will give you the biggest improvement, whilst saving your $ until the next generation of CPUs tempt you.
