Passively cooled HD4850

Thread Starter
I got this old HD4850 that I used to pair with a AC Twin Turbo. Kept the card below 65*C full load even when overvolted. I recently moved the card to a spare PC with a much smaller case. The Twin Turbo won't fit obviously. Fitted the card with a beat up old Zalman cooler I found in a box (I still have things in storage that I had forgotten about tongue.gif). Either the cooler is busted (bent fins) or it simply can't cope with the card, since temps at full load reach 95-96*C (OCCT burn test). I then tried the stock cooler and it wasn't any better and a lot louder.
I figure that without the fan shroud the Twin Turbo will fit in the smaller case. How do you guys figure the card will run passively cooled? The card runs stock and there will be a 120mm side intake next to it.

From what I remember, the 4850's ran super hot. Without a dedicated cooler, I think you can cook some eggs, sunny side up or you'll have an early 4th in your case.

Wasn't there a passively cooled HD4850 from someone? I think it was a GB card.

Well I straped the cooler without the fans and the card started to melt. Had to strap a low profile fan I found and all is good now.
