Help with a new buy!

Hi, I was wondering which would be the best for stock and overclocked performance:

G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2x 8GB) 2400MHz, 10-12-12-31 F3-2400C10D-16GTX

G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4x 4GB) 2133MHz, 9-11-10-28 F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2x 8GB) 2133MHz, 9-11-11 F3-2133C9D-16GXH

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2x 4GB) 2133MHz, 9-11-10-28 F3-17000CL9D-8GBSR

G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2x 8GB) 1600 MHz, 7-8-8-24 F3-1600C7D-16GTX

I have 4 slots empty and, if it matters, it will pair a 4770k. Any other better kit of any other brand that doesn't exceed the $180 price is welcome. Thanks very much.

I'm pretty sure only using two slots help the overclock, if only a bit. (It's late, and I could be pulling that out of nowhere, but I'm pretty sure I've read that on OCN.)

That leaves the Trident Xs and the Ripjaws X and the Sniper. 16GB would be great if you want a RAMdisk or know you'll use a lot of RAM in general. If you won't, go for the Sniper series.

If you need a lot of RAM go for any of the X series. From there it depends on whether or not you're gaming or video picture editing. Gaming on Intel doesn't need anything more than 1600Mhz. The others can use more Mhz, but it ends up helping.

While the Ripjaws X are the cheapest of the 2×8GB, the 2400Mhz Tridents aren't much more. I'd want to go for those, but I also like expensive things... redface.gif

Hope I gave enough info. thumb.gif

TL;DR: 2400MHz Trident X or Ripjaws X. smile.gif

G.Skill's 8Gb modules rated for DDR3-1600 7-8-8, DDR3-1866 8-9-9, DDR3-2133 9-11-11 and DDR3-2400 10-12-12 are based on exact same Samsung 4Gbit memory chips, hence they will do each others' specs and will overclock roughly the same.

Even though 8Gb sticks will have to run looser subtimings compared to 4Gb sticks (i.e. be slower at same primary timings), four module combinations are usually more problematic to run, so if you really need 16Gb of RAM, go with any 2x8Gb combination that you've listed.

First one, Haswell CPUs love high speed.

Cheers
