CPU/MOBO Upgrade

Thread Starter
I'm looking to upgrade from a 720BE(DEAD) on my other computer that is used for browsing (and a few other light task).

Wants - Quad-core+ ( Anything faster than the 720BE... Which would be anything, lol. )

Budget - Under 250$

No overclocking will be done on this computer. Be aware I'm using a Corsair cx430m power supply with an Ati 4770.

Preferred website: Newegg

Thanks guys thumb.gif

Here you go:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113326
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130637

these seem like solid choices for your budget, equipment, and goals. This should come out $200 without shipping. With shipping probably $10-$15 extra. Cheers

The 6300 is the same price as that 4350 at Newegg. Also, that MSI board... MSI made some iffy boards for AM3+ with reports of VRMs literally catching fire. I would suggest an ASUS (Gigabyte or ASRock equivalents are good too) M5A97 LE from Newegg as well. You COULD take a step down to the 780 chipset, but I wouldn't suggest it. 970 chipset is generally the lowest I suggest. Like the poster above me, this comes in ~200 bucks. If you do want to step up a little bit, you can go for the ASUS M5A99X EVO or the M5A99FX Pro for better power phasing and VRMS. Since you said that you won't be overclocking, this is a moot suggestion, just thought I would put it out there.

The new FM and FM2 boards are awesome. I overclocked an A4-5400 on my MSI A55M-P33 FM1 from 2.7 to 3.4ghz and the un-heatsinked mosfets didnt even wince. With Prime95 and Netflix going, after an hour they never got over 45c (checked with a thermal gun). This was even with a tower cooler that doesnt blow incidental air on the VRM.

I ran similar tests on client builds using the FM2 version MSI FM2-A55M-E33, same results. It would appear that MSI learned from their mistakes.

I highly recomend this configuration for what you are needing

I was referring to the AM3+ boards. The FM2, and basically all other boards they made, seem to work as expected. I feel they just didn't design the AM3+ boards as well as they advertised. The AM3+ boards also have a great deal more wattage coming across the VRMs with the 6300, 8320, and 8350 than stock A4. Not sure on the overclocked usage.

EDIT: Upon actually reading your middle line, I wrote a little too defensively. Yeah, the FM2 seems to be a much better quality board than the AM3+ series.
