Heck look at some of the hospitals around that are not for profit. There will be individuals making millions a year, but the hospital it self as a business entity will claim almost no profit or even a loss. The NFL works the same way.

I know how "not-for-profit" companies work, thanks. I am the president of one (my local road association) and those of us on the board don't make a dime or get compensated in any way for what we do.

There are different levels. I currently work for a research and medical organization that the employs around 80,000 people across the nation and deals in dollar amounts in the billions yearly...yet it is a not for profit organization. It has a couple of for profit divisions...but probably 80% is not for profit. The NFL is the same way. I think they have a for profit merchandising division or subsidiary too.

Understood. There are different levels depending on how you pay out money for projects as well. (we have to let the county know every time we write a check, but at least we don't have to send them our financials unless audited)

I just feel that the NFL and NHL (and other professional sports leagues) should not be allowed to hide under a not-for-profit moniker.

The only reason the MLB gave up their NFP designations was so they didn't have to disclose salaries.

(BTW, I re-read my post above and it sounded short. Not my intent.)

They are supposed to do the same thing you guys have to. I used to be a member of a local club and we wanted to do the not for profit bit...but decided it was just too much work. If they meet the criteria and do all the necessary paperwork and reporting. I don't really see an issue with it. I see all the shenanigans that go on around my company of money getting swept around from spot to spot. I'd bet we are far worse than the NFL in that regard and there are likely others that are quite worse then this company I work for (though I am not a bean counter and I do know we are audited by many organizations for compliance so maybe it is all good...just feels suspicious some times).

I think I'd prefer them to be not for profit and publicize the salaries than pay taxes on what is probably a relatively small amount in the corporate world and then hide that info...the MLB is probably all sorts of filthy now. No telling what they are doing with their money.

I've been around OCN far too long to even notice some one getting short even when they do get a little tempered. Though you certainly didn't give that impression smile.gif Post your mind...I am never afraid to be wrong and since we are really just posting opinions no one is.
