Help with a 486...CDROM issue.

Thread Starter
I have an old IBM PS/1 486 computer. I want to get it running. I got everything going, I installed DOS and have Win 3.1 up and running. I'm having an issue getting the CD-ROM to work. The CD-ROM on this system is connected via an IDE cable to the ISA SB 16 card. The sound works in DOS and Windows, because you don't need drivers in DOS for an ISA Sound blaster 16.

The problem is when I install the CD-ROM driver(Just using the Oak ones) it says there is no CD-ROM. I've tried a few other generic drivers to no avail.

Any help would be great thank you. I don't want any backlash about getting a new PC, I just wanna get this cool little oldie running.

Hey! More power to ya! Love them oldies.

Is it a CD from that era, or a newer one. A newer one will be an issue.

More than likely its an IRQ conflict. On those older machines you could (and often had to) set IRQs manually.
