Warning: EK-RES X3 series, PE Foam Use

Notes:
- 4 months of use
- distilled water and a silver kill coil
- no other additives

As per their instructions:

I just recently saw the foam leave its resting place and start to move around.

I also noticed via my Koolance flow meter, go from 4.0 LPM to 3.7 LPM.

So I took I decided to take out the res and remove the foam and/or replace it.

When I took it out I noticed debris floating around as I inverted the tube res.

I opened it and poured it out...instant disintegration

I knew that at the very least my CPU block was clogged.

Cleaned up everything I could, put it all back together and im back to 4.0 LPM

Not sure how much debris is stuck elsewhere, but I do not have time to flush out 5 rads, 3 gpu blocks, motherboard blocks, etc.

Warning, do NOT use the PE FOAM they include.

I have emailed EK regarding this. I hope they respond and address this. They likely did not do any level of testing with this foam. I will post their response when I get it.

that's terrible, my bitspower mini tank plus also comes with a similar foam. however, mine did not break down after a year and a half of use.

That's not normal. PU shouldn't disintegrate in water at all. Mine is still like new and it's has been running for almost year and a half. Appears to be material defect, sadly nothing you can do. We will certainly keep an eye on this but there's no need to worry.

So....you agree its not normal and not intended to perform in this manner, however you don't believe it to be a problem for any/many current users or soon to be users. You believe this to be an isolated occurrence?

I would think that "my foam" was cut from a larger piece, so I would also believe that there are going to be others in this same circumstance.

@Huhh would love for you to respond on what you find when you take yours out.

Took mine out and drained my loop, no debris and the foam looks fine after over a year of use. It's weird yours disintegrated like that, never seen that before.
