Thinking real hard about Steelseries Siberia V2

Thread Starter
I know this sort of thing gets asked a ton, I've been wading through a few threads on the subject but I figured I'd go ahead and ask. I'm not an audiophile but I like to get the most for my $ so research research research. I hate to say it but a built in mic is a must for me for a few reasons, like ease and convenience, no added cost, etc. I'm looking to spend around $100 give or take. I do read that the Siberia V2 do have pretty good sound considering price and that they are a headset, they seem comfy, they look nice too, the retractable mic is nice, and a big bonus is I can pick them up at the local BestBuy for around $80. Is there a better headset out there for the $, or can you really talk me into a separate headphones and mic considering the things I mentioned above? Also keep in mind that probably anything will be an improvement over my previous setup, an old Logitech DSP500, lol.

A lot of people around here automatically recommend a "hifi" set of headphones and some sort of mic to replace a headset. I think they are wrong.

I have a decent pair of phones and audio equipment to go along with it and a Siberia V2. The Siberia v2 has great sound, although quite a bit of bass. It's not really overpowering though, so I wouldn't worry about that. The retractable mic is a very nice feature and sounds great as well.

I use it for music too, it's very decent.

For $80 you cant go wrong with the Siberia V2. It's universally acknowledged as a very good, high quality headset.

OP, you can get the Steel Series V2 on amazon for $ 50-$60 right now with free shipping, only certain colors are $50-$60 but for that price, I wouldn't really care what color I got. I ordered myself the black/gold and the white/black ones.

http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Size-Gaming-Headset/dp/B005HGBDBM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1384834634&sr=8-2&keywords=steel+series+v2

Or if you wait out til black friday ATH m-50 usually go on sale for about $99 with free shipping, which is also another nice headset.

M50s are headphones, not headsets.

The Siberia V2s are also more comfortable making them more suitable for longer sessions.

If you absolutely need a micboom, then the Siberia V2 is "decent".
But it doesn't change the fact that Superlux HD681 is better (or at least equal) in quality, and it's priced at 30$. Not to mention you can use AKG K-240 parts to modify it (velour pads/etc.)

There are rumours flying about that Superlux is going to make a headset version out of the HD681Evo model wink.gif

Ok, went to BestBuy and got the Siberia V2's, but I feel much better about it than before. When I got there they had the white ones for $85 and I picked them up then saw the blue ones for $75 and pciked those up then saw the black ones were $60!!! I feel much better about paying $60 for these knowing how much better some headphones are for the $85 price. They sound real good to me, not knowing any better, lol.

At $60 you can't really go wrong with these. They wouldn't be my first choice at MSRP but they're not bad by any means.

Yeah, I would really have liked the red or the white ones, but no way in heck I'm paying a $20+ difference for a color choice, lol!
