It's another one...

Hey guys. Wife said I could get a new pair of cans for Christmas, so I'm looking into something nice.

I'm currently looking at the HD598 and PC360. The PC360 has a built in mic which I like because I will be gaming a lot with the headphones and it is currently cheaper than a pair of HD598s.

Requirements
Open sound stage
Good for gaming
Excellent sound quality for all types of music
Neutralish sound signature

I don't want extreme bass heavy headphones because that is horrible for gaming, however I do like bassy music, so the AD700 won't' fly.

After looking on MLE's guide, these seem to be good price to performance ratio headphones for gaming, and I'd like to stick around their price range. Unless a pair of 250 heapdhones will completely blow me away for gaming, I'd rather stick to the sub-200 range.

What do I have now? I have Turtle Beach HPA2's, Psyko Audio Krypton's, and Superlux HD681's.

What do I have as audio equipment? onboard sound on ASUS Maximus VI Hero, Creative Extigy, Harmon Kardon AVR65

Plans for the future? Well, I want a dedicated dolby headphone controller like the Astro Mixamp or similar, possible a sound card, and amp to make the cans really shine.

I welcome all suggestions on what dolby headphone controller and amp I should use with these cans or the cans you suggest.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to help. biggrin.gif

I had a cheaper Turtle Beach set and I just can't use them again after getting my Senn 598. It's am amazing set of headphones. Great soundstage and for me there's enough bass to get the point across without overpowering everything else. I just have a clip-on mic I use for voice chat sessions for WoW raids and I'm good to go. They're also the most comfortable set of headphones I've tried. The other reason I'd recommend them over the 360 is the mic. Should the 360s mic break it looks kind of silly to have a 2nd mic around with a built in mic on your headphones.

That's my $.02

Okay. scratch that. WIfe gave me a bigger budget. Now I'm looking into the AKG Q701. I know those need to be amped, so a suggestion for amps for those would be awesome.

I'm looking at the objective o2 because it has a neutral sound signature, which I think will accent the q701's well for gaming.

Oh, and I'll be using the creative extigy or turtle beach dss for Dolby headphone or cmss. I'll play around with both and see which one I like better for positional audio.
